Mixed Oxides Derived from Hydrotalcites Mg/Al Active in the Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation of Furfural to Furfuryl Alcohol

Herein, a family of Mg/Al hydrotalcites was synthesized as catalytic precursors MgAlOx mixed oxides. Both and oxides were characterized the tested in reduction furfural to yield furfuryl alcohol by MPV reaction using isopropanol hydrogen donor. Different parameters tested, such type alcohol, calcination temperature hydrotalcite, temperature. Furfural adsorbed on MgAl-3 catalyst follow species FTIR analysis. The results showed that activated isopropoxide changed adsorption site with increasing but maintaining h1-conformation. performances associated basicity catalysts deactivation processes have been attributed existence surface, mainly due furfural-derived compounds. reused three consecutive cycles showing sharp drop activity. To recover activity, calcined at 500 °C activity only partially recovered. XPS analysis after reactivation surface modified segregation hydroxides Mg Al.
